GradGuard’s Technology team works hard, moves fast, and has each other’s backs. We’re looking for an experienced BI Engineer to join our team that’s responsible for helping shape data-driven decisions with visualizations in our fast-paced environment. As a key member of our small but agile team, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable dashboards, and reporting solutions to provide actionable insights. You’ll work closely with financial business users and other stakeholders across teams to understand business needs, visualize requests, and ensure data accuracy and usability.

We are seeking skilled and collaborative candidates who have skills with SQL and Metabase-like data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Looker). Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to work autonomously, and understanding business needs. This role is based at our Phoenix office.

Challenges you'll focus on include:

• Building data models within Metabase by structuring and organizing data from diverse sources to facilitate efficient analysis.
• Writing complex SQL queries to retrieve relevant data from Snowflake for reporting and analysis.
• Creating visually appealing and user-friendly dashboards using Metabase's visualization tools to present key metrics and insights.
• Working closely with financial business users to understand their data and visualization needs, translate them into actionable insights, and refine dashboards accordingly.
• Monitoring query performance and optimizing queries with the data engineers to ensure fast response times for complex queries.
• Providing training and support to end users on how to effectively utilize Metabase features, access data, and openness to share SQL skills.

The person we're looking for has a proven, successful background with:

• Must have 3+ years working experience in a data visualization tool similar to Metabase and SQL.
• Understanding of a visualization tool like Metabase or similar tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, or Looker), its functionality, including data modeling, visualization options, and security settings.
• Strong understanding of SQL syntax and query optimization techniques
• Familiarity working with data warehouse technologies like Snowflake.
• Effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements and explain complex data insights.
