Job Description

Company Overview: Our client is a small entrepreneurial manufacturing company located in Peabody, MA. We have three different divisions that primarily supply automated Semiconductor OEM's. The Precision Fabrication Group has the engineering expertise and the machining capabilities to make challenging components and assemblies. The Specialized Welding Group supports stainless steel gas lines and panels as well as vacuum process chambers. The System Manufacturing Group is a contract manufacturer that builds and tests complete systems for our customers.

Job Summary : We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Purchasing and Planning Manager to oversee and manage the purchasing, sourcing, and materials planning functions at our contract manufacturing facility. This role is critical in ensuring that materials, components, and finished goods are delivered on time, at the right cost, and in the right quantities to support production schedules and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills, as well as experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Lead and mentor a team of buyers and planners, providing guidance and support.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Work closely with your team and other departments to allocate resources effectively, ensuring that teams have the necessary tools, equipment, and personnel to meet project goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Program Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality, to support NPI timelines.
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and customers regarding any issues related to production, delivery, or supply chain disruptions.

  • Purchasing and Sourcing :
  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies to source materials, components, and services while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Manage supplier relationships and ensure timely delivery of goods to meet production needs.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and drive supplier performance to ensure compliance with quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Work closely with suppliers to manage inventory levels and resolve any supply chain disruptions.

  • Materials and Production Planning :
  • Develop and execute planning strategies across the three production groups.
  • Collaborate with production to align material availability with production schedules. Address any material shortages or delays promptly.
  • Leverage ERP data to analyze future demand and inventory levels. Coupled with historical shipments, implement systematic strategies to ensure material is on hand in the correct quantities and locations to support production scheduling.
  • Alongside Production, ensure ERP Resource Groups are properly set up to accurately forecast capacity
  • Prepare and present regular status reports on inventory, production jobs, and other key metrics.

  • Inventory Management : Monitor stock levels of raw materials, components, and finished goods to ensure availability for production without overstocking.
  • Collaborate with Dir. Operations to manage cost control initiatives related to inventory and procurement.

  • Process Improvement : Continuously evaluate and improve purchasing and planning processes to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve lead times.
  • Utilize ERP to manage and track procurement and planning activities.
  • Identify opportunities for streamlining operations and implementing best practices to drive operational excellence.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years' experience in purchasing, planning, or supply chain, with at least 2 years in a leadership role, preferably in a contract manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement processes, production planning, inventory management, and ERP systems.
  • Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage supplier relationships effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
